Founded in Anzio, near Rome, in 1889. Pollastrini is cited as the only Italian producer canning Mediterranean sardines from domestic catch. Most Italian-branded sardines are Atlantic imports processed elsewhere.
Hand-packed in olive oil, spicy olive oil, and tomato sauce. Over 130 years of production from the same Lazio coast. Stocked at Eataly in the US, which is the relevant quality signal. Available also through Alma Gourmet and Amazon.
Mediterranean sardines have a different character from Atlantic ones. Worth trying if you want to compare.
