Rödel

Founded in Bordeaux in 1824 by Charles Désiré Rödel. Among the first canneries in Europe and an early supplier to the French Navy. Today sardines are hand-packed in Brittany using responsibly sourced fish, aged in the tin.

The range includes a classic format, a Chica Pica spiced variety, and a millésimé vintage-year line. Sold at La Grande Épicerie de Paris and available internationally through specialty retailers.

Both Rödel and Connétable carry claims to being among the oldest sardine operations in the world. The dates are real; the “oldest” label is a marketing distinction.
